Raze (2013) - Zoe Bell, Doug Jones Movie HD

Zoe Bell (Death Proof) returns to the exploitation genre in Josh C. Waller's "RAZE".

First premiering at New York's Tribeca Film Festival, "RAZE" follows the fate of 49 women as they are kidnapped by the sadistic Elizabeth (Sherilyn Fen)  and Joseph (Doug Jones), a married couple whose idea of a good time is a blood thirsty sporting event where two women are placed in room in some part of their mansion and forced to fight to one of them is dead. There is a catch, however, that ensures that the women fight: You back out, and we'll send somebody out to your unsuspecting family harm.

Although, if you are looking for your standard 70's style Women-in-Prison exploitation film you are going to be disappointed as Waller touts "RAZE" more  in  the  vein of a more  serious,  if it were men that were kidnapped and forced to fight to save their loved ones.

31 Days 31 Picks Sinister - Official Trailer [HD]

Down on his luck true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) has decided that too chase the brass ring of success then one most put it all on the line. But Ellison had no idea that what "putting it all on the line" entailed.

"Sinister" opens with footage from a Super 8 camera depicting a family of four standing beneath a tree with hoods over their heads and nooses around their necks as an unseen figure saws through a limb that is acting as a counterweight. The branch lets go and hangs the foursome

Months later, enter washed-up true-crime writer Ellison Oswalt as he moves his family into the murdered family's home. Only Ellison, however, is aware that the house was the crime scene. Ellison intends to use the murders as the basis for his new book, in hopes that his research will turn up the fate of the family's fifth member, a little girl named Stephanie who disappeared following the murders.

Ellison finds a box in the attic that contains a projector and several reels of Standard 8 mm footage that are each labeled as innocent home movies. Watching the films, Ellison discovers that they are snuff movies depicting families being murdered in various ways: having their throats slit in bed (Sleepy Time '98), being burnt to death in a car (BBQ '79), being drowned in their pool (Pool Party '66), being run over by a lawn mower (Lawn Work '86), and the hanging that opened the movie (Family Hanging Out '11). The drowning film proves especially disturbing for Ellison after he notices the face of a demonic figure watching the drownings from the bottom of the pool. Ellison eventually finds the figure observing the murders in each of the films, along with a strange painted symbol; inspecting the lid of the box containing the films, Ellison discovers childish drawings depicting the murders, along with crude sketches of the demonic figure, identified as "Mr. Boogie." Consulting a local deputy (James Ransone), Ellison discovers that the murders depicted in the films took place at different times, beginning in the 1960s, and in different cities across the country. He also learns that the families were all drugged before being killed; and that a child from each family went missing following every murder. The deputy refers Ellison to a local professor, Jonas (Vincent D'Onofrio), whose expertise is the occult and demonic phenomena, to decipher the symbol in the films. Jonas tells Ellison that the symbols are that of a pagan Sumerian deity named Bughuul (Nick King), who would kill entire families so that he could take their children into his realm and consume their souls

How Masked Horror Villains Should Jump the Medium

Ah, yes. What I am sure is going to be the next “low-rent” re-hash of one of my favorite horror flicks makes it’s way to the movie theaters today. “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” has had some worthy notes to the franchise and some rather full fledge duds as well. And this latest incarnate of Leatherface has me feeling that this is on the latter side of the sequel/remakes.

This time around “TCM” gets a name makeover to the awesomeness of “Texas Chainsaw 3D” (yes, for whatever the fucking reason we get to see Leatherface in all his gory glory in 3D… yay! And yes I am being sarcastic when I say “YAY”). Hollywood seems to still have a hard-on for that for some moronic reason. Sure we have the supper hot Alexandra Daddario for our heroine but is that enough to make me cough up ten plus dollars to sit in the theater, and in January no less. Because we all know that January is the dumping ground for crap movies. That and I have been fucked over too many times with these updates/reboots that have just sucked. (“Friday the 13th” anyone?)

Hey. I am all for a good telling of the same old story. (Just ask any of my friends who get to sit through one of my drunken retellings of days gone by to anyone new and/or willing to listen.) I think with how horror has finally jumped mediums and moved into television we can truly explore some of the old 80s villains. (Hell, they already have Norman Bates & Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lector cued up, ready to go.) Just look how widely respected “American Horror Story” and “Walking Dead” have become. This makes me think that it might be time to explore that thinking. How good of a story do you think can come out of story lines like “Hellraiser” if given a 13 episode run instead of trying to pound 3 lbs of shit into a 80-90 minute flick? Same goes to Freddy, Jason, and the aforementioned Leatherface.

Hopefully Hollywood is watching and taking note if “Bates Motel” takes off. Imagine the great TV horror fans and fans of the great masked villains would be given.
